Chronicles of a Late-Blooming Child Prodigy

I'm an unrelenting aficionado of Chess, Toastmasters and acoustic music (Celtic and Bluegrass--Turquoisegrass?). Audio and Video Blogging gives my visitors a chance to hear and see my triumvirate of interests in action. Cheers! --GT

Name:
Location: Olympia, Washington, United States

My recurring illusions of grandeur: (1) winning a state-level chess tournament, (2) winning the World Championship of Public Speaking, and (3) playing Flight of the Bumblebee on the guitar at the Annual Flatpicking Championship in Winfield, Kansas. Until then, I'll relish all three pursuits with the enthusiasm and fearlessness of a late-blooming child prodigy. :)

A Fellow Soldierly Blogger / Muse / Musician

Remember the old putdown--"You don't get paid to think. If you were, you'd get paid a lot less!" Here's a fellow soldier and old friend who should be paid a lot more for his thinking.

Hi GT,

That's how I saw you identifying yourself on Fiddle_Crazy where I looked at your photos taken in Iraq.

I just listened to you playing Ernest T. - you were making him sing most beautifully :)

What drew me to your photos was that my son returned from a tour of duty in Iraq in March of 2005. He was at Camp Taji with the Arkansas ARNG 39th Brigade Combat Team. He volunteered to go when they found they needed a Chaplain's Assistant. He spent the last 4 months he was there working Civil Affairs.

I think it was so cool that you took your instruments and also that you had the program of getting tin whistles to the Iraqi children :) Music is a wonderful way to reach each other.

I am a beginning fiddler, my husband plays 5 string banjo, guitar and piano, my son plays guitar and just got a mandolin for Christmas (though he'll be playing rock on it, not bluegrass).

Thanks for serving and thanks for posting your photos at Fiddle_Crazy :)
